Major new bungalow development described as “mould-breaking”
The developer of the North East’s first major bungalow project in 20 years has described it as “mould-breaking”.
Highgate Meadows, built by Wynyard Homes in the rural County Durham village of Dalton Piercy, is a prestigious development of 30 contemporary detached and semi-detached homes.
Wynyard Homes managing director Barry Miller said for decades bungalows had been largely ignored by developers, because of the high cost of land and construction, and historically they only appealed to a small section of buyers. But Highgate Meadows, which is four miles from Hartlepool, has made people think again.
Customers have already reserved seven of the properties and while the Government’s Stamp Duty holiday might also encourage people to think about moving, Mr Miller believes that the quality of the properties, the attention to detail and the rural location of the development are the over-riding factors reasons behind the high level of interest.
“People tend to remember bungalows with small rooms and are poorly-proportioned by today’s tastes. The properties we’ve built at Highgate Meadows are in stark contrast to that perception, and have been designed for modern living, all with fully-fitted bathrooms and kitchens with state-of-the-art appliances.
“Easy living on one level and the advantages of additional space carries wide-appeal, and Highgate Meadows breaks the mould of what most would traditionally expect from a bungalow. The development itself features mature trees with an open country outlook, and because every property is single level, you are never over-looked and it all feels very private.”
Despite the lockdown delaying progress on the site, the stunning show home is now open for viewing and work on 13 bungalows is well advanced.
Mr Miller, a former managing director of Bellway North East, launched Hartlepool-based Wynyard Homes in 2016. It is currently working on four sites in the North East and is about to launch a fifth at East Rainton near Houghton-le-Spring, where it will build 33 detached houses.
“Every one of our developments is different. We don’t have a standard range of houses, for example. Instead, we look at the context of location and provide a selection of properties for that particular site. We pride ourselves on being individual and like to think we’re a cut above the mass house building market,” said Mr Miller.
At Highgate Meadows there are five different types of two and three bedroom bungalows, with prices starting at £269,950. Each property is individually designed and features superior quality materials and highly-specified interiors, including carefully sourced modern fixtures and fittings to provide both functional and stylish living.
The location of the development is ideal for people who want to enjoy all the benefits of rural life but it is also close enough to the A19 to provide easy connections to the North East’s major towns and cities.
