First Feast by the Sea coming to Whitley Bay this weekend

The first of three new street food extravaganzas comes to Whitley Bay this weekend.

Each free-to-enter Feast by the Sea will treat visitors to a taste of the best street food available in the UK.

The Spanish City Plaza will be transformed into a spectacular festival site, with giant yurts, stretch tents, stalls, bars and numerous kitchen trucks serving up freshly cooked meals and snacks. There will also be live music, entertainment, and a vintage family games area.

The numerous food providers will include Goodtimes Tacos, Goodtimes Tacos is bringing a taste of Mexico to the first Feast by the Seathe brainchild of former baker Danny Kowalczyk from Gosforth, which will bring a Mexican flavour to the feast, and Nomad Curries – launched by Peter and Paula Horsley from Gateshead – who will provide high quality vegan food.Paula and Peter Horsely of Nomad Curries

The Feast by the Sea is open from 11am to 10pm on Saturday and from 11am to 7pm on Sunday. It returns on 10th and 11th August and 7th and 8th September.

The event is the idea of Mark and Shelley Deakin – the couple behind the Proper Food and Drink Festivals and Festival by the Sea – who have teamed up with a former colleague, Nigel Holliday.  Together they used to run some of the Newcastle’s most popular events, clubs and bars.

“We’ve known each other for a long time and are delighted to be working together again. Nigel brings a lot of expertise and experience of developing pop up events,” said Mark.

“I would like to think that between us we have helped create in the North East an interest in well-run and innovative festivals – as well as an appetite for fantastic new types of food.”

Last month’s Whitley Bay Proper Food and Drink Festival attracted record crowds and the Deakins say they are delighted to be able to return to the same location so soon.

“Spanish City is once again one of the most iconic locations on the North East coast,” said Shelley.  “What we’re planning will certainly do justice to the setting.

“Street food has become so popular in recent years. It stands for quality and flavour. We are very excited about bringing together in one place so many fantastic producers.

“Street food is about getting out there with your family, meeting friends and having fun.  It’s a real celebration of life and love.”
