Free taste of golf on offer at Tynemouth Golf Club

Tynemouth Golf Club is encouraging residents of North Tyneside to “give golf a go”. It is running a free Golf Taster Session for beginners on Sunday 17 February from 1pm-3pm.

Club manager Paul Whittaker said: “You might have fancied trying golf but never got round to it, you might see it as a way of improving your fitness, or perhaps the social side might appeal.paul-whittaker-manager-of-tynemouth-golf-club

“For the Taster Session all you need is warm clothing and comfortable shoes, we’ll supply the rest – including free hot drinks and biscuits.”

For those beginners who are bitten by the golfing bug, Tynemouth Golf Club is providing further opportunities to try the sport with Get into Golf sessions.  They start on 5 March and 6 April, last five weeks and cost just £25 with expert coaching provided by the club professional John McKenna.

“After that you’ll probably know whether you want to stick with it,” said Paul.  “So we’ve created an Academy – for people of all ages – which provides a stepping stone for those who want to keep playing and learning and think about becoming members.

“Our aim is to do all we can to introduce the sport we love to as many people as possible.”

That includes working with Tyne Metropolitan College to develop a golf programme for students with disabilities.  Tynemouth Golf Club has also been chosen by England Golf, the amateur game’s governing body, as one of the clubs to take part in a project called Girls Golf Rocks which aims to encourage more girls and young women to try the sport.

Tynemouth Golf Club has confirmed as well that it is repeating its offer of “15 for 12” for new members in 2019.
